Mr. & Mrs. Tallow is a couple-founded skincare brand based in Fletcher, North Carolina — where every batch is rendered slow from grass-fed suet, in small runs, by hand. This is home.
Rendered in the Blue Ridge
Fletcher sits in Henderson County, in the western North Carolina foothills just south of Asheville — Blue Ridge country, where pasture rolls up into the mountains. It's the kind of place where doing things the slow, old way never really went out of style. That's where every batch of Mr. & Mrs. Tallow is rendered and jarred, by hand.
Why grass-fed tallow
Tallow is rendered beef fat, and its makeup is close to the oil your own skin makes — mostly oleic, stearic, and palmitic fatty acids — which is why it tends to absorb rather than sit on top. Rendered from grass-fed suet, it also carries the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Start with a cleaner fat and render it low and slow, and you get a mild, honest balm instead of something yellow and beefy.
Small batch, on purpose
We render in small batches because a big, rushed pot is a scorched pot. We whip it by feel and jar it by hand, and we don't make more than we can make well. It's the least efficient way to do it, and the only way we're interested in.
